Spatial Insights Global 1Km Elevation Data are worldwide Digital Elevation Models (DEM) with a horizontal grid spacing of 30 arc seconds (approximately 1 kilometer). The data were derived from several raster and vector sources of topographic information.
Spatial Insights Global 1KM Elevation Data have been seamlessly merged and are available by continent, country, and by tile. The data are available in formats compatible with major desktop mapping GIS systems on the market today including ArcView™ and MapInfo Professional™. The data are also great for use in Vertical Mapper™. Formats include USGS DEM (suitable for ArcView) and Vertical Mapper GRD (for MapInfo).
The global 1Km Elevation Data are based on data derived from 8 sources of elevation information, including vector and raster data sets. The following table lists the percentage of the global land surface area derived from each source:
The absolute vertical accuracy varies by location according to the source data. Generally, the areas derived from the raster source data have higher accuracy than those derived from the vector source data. The full resolution 3-arc second DTED and USGS DEM's have a vertical accuracy of + or - 30 meters linear error at the 90 percent confidence level.
